Nothing Gold Can Stay

Last Friday night, my boss and I had dinner at one of the local popular Japanese restaurant. The view overthere was stunning. It was amazing that having delicious Japan cusine and breathtaking skyline at the same time.

“Let’s go to Japan once the pandemic ends” he suggested.

“Ya, but I can’t see the end this year.”

“That’s why I booked this Japanese restaurant. I missed Japan so much” he said.

“2019. it was an extraordinary year.”

“Sure.” I agreed.

“Life is short. So do the things which make you happy. And be with people who make you happy. Look for the food in every day even…even if some days you have to look harder.” He looked at my eyes.

“Yup, sometimes I remember the days in 2019.”

“Nothing gold can stay.” He said and drink his sake.

Yes, nothing gold can stay. Everything changed in 2019 and things cannot go back to the way they like in 2019.

Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subside to lead. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day, Nothing gold can stay.

The balance of power

“The balance of power around the world is changing.” He says.

“Em…”I murmur.

“Ancient people would reason the serious natural disasters that there must be changes of sovereignty or political power.” He continues.

“Really?”

“Like in the bible, the birth of Jesus.”

“There was a very bright star, not a disaster.”

“Like the death of Jesus.” He changes.

“Yup, and whatelase?” I ask.

He is silent.

“Are you talking about the great Earthquake in China and the birth of new China.” I ask and give him some examples.

“Do you also mean the Hurricane Katrina and the presidency of George Bush?” I wonder.

“Also the famine in Japan during world war II?”

“Do you believe that history will repeat itself? It will repeats in such cunning disguise that we never detect the resemblance until the damage is done.” He worrys.

And I am silent.

War does not determine who is right, only who is left.

I am sorry that I didn’t update my stories with my boss for this week as I was super busy. The world are debating and concerning the situation in Afghanistian in these few days. And Biden adminstration is busy about blaming everyone but himself for the chaotic withdrawal from there.

“Before the militory withdrawal from Afghanistian, people are concerning about when will the US government withdraw. After the chaotic withdrawal from there, people are concerning about how did the US government withdraw.” My boss rolls his mobile and says.

“Yup, but Mr. Biden has already expained that there is never a good time to withdraw US forces. And people agree to withdraw US troops from there at the very begining.” I say.

“The main concern is Democracy will be a problem sometime.” He explains.

“May I ask why?” I confuse.

“Decision making is too slow. Sometime we need to do it fast.” he emphasises. “Reacting time is the key especially during wars. You cannot wait!” he stresses.

“No mather how powerful of your armaments, no mather how advanced of your militory technology, if you don’t act fast, you loss.” He affirms.

“So much of our lives is given over to the consideration.” He suppresses his sadness when he sees the images from the social media.

“Maybe this is one of the problems about work from home.” I say.

Business competitions is on

Running a business is a chanllenge particularly during pandemic. Business environment changes, Business model changes, and customers practices chagnes. And companies have to be more innovative and creative to survive than before.

“Your competitors are doing great discount on products prices. Do we need to follow them?” I ask my boss and show him the advestiment on the social media.

“The company’s best advantage should be a qulity product offered at the right price.” He answers with a smile.

“But they are drawing attention now.” I said. I do not have any ideas about price competition and how the business works. Maybe it is the reason why I am an employee not an entrepreneur.

“If we let low-price competition continue to disturb the market order without containment, it will have an adverse effect on, and cause disorder to, the profession in the long run.” He explains.

“So, should we just…ignore them?” I confuse.

“If you have a successful company, you will get your market share. We don’t have a monopoly. We have market share.” He seems like care nothing about it and then sips his morning coffee as usual.

I look at him and wonder. Will I be a successful entrepreneur one day?

The Summer Rain

It is a summer rain. I see children jumping up and down in the water puddle. They are laughing happily. However, summer rain makes me remember another thing. Something that I hope they never happened.

“let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday.” Boss tells me.

“There are two types of pains, one that hurts you and the other that changes you.” He says.

Messages keep showning up on my phone screen and I cannot avoid seeing them. Thousands of unread messages popping up on my screen. I remember that it happened before. It did happen before. It happened in one summertime. A summertime that I cannot forget or force to remember.

“It is a trap of emotional blackmail. It is a powerful form of manupulation. It leaves you in a fog when there is haze of fear, obligation, and guilt.” He looks at my eyes.

“You need changes.”

I look at him back and say “It’s hard to forget some incidents that gave you so much to remember. Some memories never fade.” I believe that I may nearly cry.

“Sometimes, it’s not only the bad memories that make us sad. But also the happy ones which we know will never happen again.”he murmurs.

But I hear it clearly.

Cashless Cycle

Because of pandemic, mobile phones become a very essential tool in our daily life. All the payments go through online and non-touching methods. And it makes my boss is forced to use his mobile.

At first, I thought I may need to teach him how to use it. Surprisingly, he is working with his mobile phone very well. The way he using mobile really looks like a kid.

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone keeps learning stays young.” He says to me proudly.

“Absolutely. You are young actually.” I smile.

“I keep pushing myself to do something different every three years.” He says.

“If you can’t avoid using it, fully utilize it.” He sipped his coffee.

Yes. It’s sure. If we cannot avoid mobile phones or social media integrating into our daily life, we need to use all their advantages to benefit ourselves.

“The cashless society is being pushed to track and trace and control people and kill any underground markets.” He states.

“People just don’t know it yet.” He looks at me.

It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds

After three consecutive rainy days, I look out the window to see trees which look greener. There are always some birds sitting in these trees and I believe they live there.

I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth. Then I ask myself the same question.

I still remember how my boss asked me to stay here two years ago.

“Birds go wherever the food is and stay where the food is.” He spoke to me anxiously. I understood that he was worried about my decision.

“We are birds in flight, searching the skies for dreams.” I told him.

“Not every tree is a home for every bird.” He said.

“Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness.” I told him.

“At some point we all play by the rules, whether it’s the rules of all mankind, the rules of the Father who is time, or the rules of nature who is mother.” He signed and I could feel his sadness. He didn’t want me to leave.

“Anyway, keep in touch, my dear.” He looked at me and looked in my eyes.

“Will do.”

“Protectionism. One day you will understand the rules. This is only one thing more painful than learning from experience and this is not learning from experience.” He said sincerely.

I nodded.

I was not so sure. And I am not so sure.

Is stagflation coming?

“Property market is going bananas around the world.” He says after his morning coffee.

It’s always his show time in the morning at his office.

“How come the housing demand is still strong during the pandemic. Property market should start to cool on its own when unemployment rates is going up and ecomony is hit by lockdowns.” I complain.

“It can be a good sign of ecomony is covering or a sign of something bad.” He said

“bad thing? What would that be?” I doubt

“The thing that every government dosen’t want to see it.” he contiues.

“Stagflation.” He states.

I wait for his explanation.

“Stagflation will happen in the situation which the inflation rate is high, the economic growth rate slows and unemployment remains steadily high. As young as you may not know that stagflation is a catastrophic for countries. It happened at U.S. in 1970 before.”

I google it simutaneously while he is talking.

“But not everybody will lose during stagflation. It will further widen intergenrational inequality.” He explains more.

“What can we do now?”I ask.

“Not WE, just YOU.” he laughs.

“Use your creation to generate more income as fast as you could. Within crisis, are the seeds of opportunity.” He shares.

That is the most difficult part. Everything is easier said than done. Wanting something is easy. Saying something is easy. The challenge and the reward are in the doing.

Covid-19 will reshape our world

“Covid-19 will reshape our world. We don’t yet know when the crisis will end. But we can be sure that by the time it does, our world will look very different.” one said.

My job duties are totally different when I am back to office. It makes me realize how the current pandemic changes our world in all perspectives.

“Pandemic is a war. It makes people losing their jobs, losing their homes, losing their lives, and losing their minds.” My boss says when he sips his cup of coffee.

“Yup, but it just affects the grass-roots the most. The riches are still rich.” I joke and wipe my working desk up at the meantime.

“Life is really not fair. Deal with it.” he is holding his coffee cup and walking next to me.

“Wealth inequality and social mobility are global issues. I cannot deal with them personally.” I look at him and answer.

“School doesn’t teach you how to be a wolf. It will teach you how to be a sheep. School won’t teach you how to be a leader. It will teach you how to obey to leaders.” He says.

“Don’t give up easily. I believe interruptions generate opportunities.” He gives me a smile.

“Alright.” I smile and then I said, “but please don’t forget keeping social distancing in working environment.”

He giggles and walks away.

The World is Digitizing

The World is Digitizing

“Paper money is going away.” Elon Musk

“Good morning, boss.” It is 8:30 early in the morning.

“Good morning. It’s great to see you again in my office. You know I missed your backchat.”

I wink and give him a smile. “I missed you too”

“So, tell me about your long holiday.” He feels like he is very interested in my vacation.

“Well…”

“I’m so glad to tell you that I bought an iPhone for myself. Therefore, no Privacy now.”

“Yes, no one can live without a smartphone during lockdowns.” I totally agree with him.

“Amazon, Facebook, Google, Blah Blah Blah. They have everything they want finally.” He murmurs.

“The whole world is going cashless and paper money is going away.” He continues.

“There is no solution.” This is impossible to go against the big trends.

Crypto.” he says.

Crypto.” He repeats.

Cryptocurrency will replace gold or Silver as the ultimate store of wealth.” He states.

“Yup, I’m not sure.” I hesitate.

Crypto will not be broken, it will be bypassed.” My boss observes.
